Schedule for Skills Sessions

The Knights Hockey Association hires professional instructors every year to run a skills session for every House League team during the Fall season. These sessions are intended to have the players experience another level of coaching and enjoy a new set of drills. At the same time, the sessions are designed to allow House League coaches to interact with the professional instructors so as to improve their skill in organizing and running a practice, to optimize the use of assistant coaches and to engage the players at the skills stations. The Knights have once again hired Steve Tschipper of Hockey Camps International (HCI) to run the 2016 – 2017 sessions.

Steve and his staff will be attending our House League practices on a staggered basis over the next three weeks, starting Saturday November 5^th, and will run the practices on that day. Coaches are encouraged to use this practice as a learning/teaching opportunity to actively participate in the skills session. HCI’s schedule for the skills session is shown below.

Schedule for GOALIE CLINICS

The Knights Executive team has decided this year (on a trial basis) to offer a series of goalie instruction clinics for House League players. Recognizing that there are more HL teams than available Select goalies, many players are ready and willing to play net on an occasional basis; but it is unfair to ask these players to play net, especially at the older age groups, without offering some training in the goalie position. Hence, we have hired a professional instructor for goaltenders to help House League players in the Atom, PeeWee and Bantam Divisions willing to try out the position in a regular season game. These sessions are intended to have the players improve their skill and confidence before tackling this demanding position. The Knights have engaged Brian Morrison, a professional goalie instructor to offer three goalie clinics on alternating Saturday mornings at Pleasantview Arena from 10:00-11:15 am on November 5^th, 19^th and December 3^rd. It will be a half ice clinic with our Extended LTP class using the other half of the sheet. Space at each clinic is limited to 9-10 goalies. At this point the spaces are being offered on a first come, first served basis to the MA / Atom,  PeeWee and Bantam divisions. If teams have more than one aspiring goalie and only one bag of equipment, the players may have to alternate as opposed to each attending all three clinics. Coaches will be canvassing their players in order to ensure interested players are scheduled to participate in the clinic. This is a great opportunity for new goalies to get some basic instruction in the position from an excellent instructor who works with a number of the Knights Select teams.
