2019-2020 House League Registration
ONLINE REGISTRATION OPENED ON MONDAY APRIL 15, 2019, AT 5:00PM.
Please review the following instructions in order to successfully complete your child’s online registration.
The North York Knights Hockey Association (the “Knights”) uses the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) for enrolment. If your child is a returning player, you will be able to enter the site using the email and password that was used in the previous year. (There is a system for retrieving your password if you have forgotten it. The Knights do not have a record of the password.) If your child is a new player, you will need to create a profile using your email address and a password. When registering your child, please use an email address that you check regularly as this will be our primary means of communication with you and the players.
Please do NOT use your child’s email address for registration purposes. If you have used your child’s email address within the registration system, you do have the option to edit the information.
Note that all communication from the league will be forwarded to the email address that you have provided during registration. If you provide an invalid or an incorrect email address you will not receive communication from the club.
All fields within the registration are self-explanatory and the system will prompt you if you forget to answer any of the mandatory questions. Once you complete the Member’s Information you will choose which Division your child will be playing in. Please note that only the name of the division will appear (i.e. Novice, Atom, Bantam, etc.) based on the player’s birth date as entered. In the next step you will be prompted to choose Major or Minor according to your child’s year of birth.
PLEASE DO NOT PLACE YOUR CHILD IN A DIVISION FOR WHICH THEY ARE INELIGIBLE. For instance, do not try to place your child born in in 2005 with those born in 2004.
PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU DO REGISTER FOR A DIVISION FOR WHICH YOUR CHILD IS INELIGIBLE, YOUR PAYMENT WILL BE ACCEPTED BUT YOUR REGISTRATION MAY BE DENIED BY THE KNIGHTS..

Duplicate copies will only be available through the website at the end of the 2019-2020 season.
Refund Policy
Notices of withdrawal and requests for refunds must be made in writing by email atregistrar@knightshockey.org. Refunds, less a $50 administrative fee, will be made for House League registrants only if requested before August 31, 2019. Refunds, less a $150 administrative fee, will be made for House League registrants only if requested between September 1, 2019 and October 31, 2019. No refunds for House League will be issued in respect of any requests received or after November 1, 2019.
Refunds, less a $50 administrative fee, will be made for Learn to Play registrants only if requested before October 31, 2019. No refunds for Learn to Play will be issued in respect of any requests received on or after November 1, 2019.
Regardless of when the refund request is submitted, a full refund will not occur as an administrative fee will be charged to cover the cost of your child’s registration and release. Refunds will only be processed after the deadline date for refunds for both House League and Learn to Play (i.e. August 31 and October 31, 2019, respectively) regardless of when the request for the refund is made. If a player is released after the relevant deadline at the discretion of the Knights, no refund will be made.
For Learn to Play (LTP) Parents
Please go to the LTP section of our website by clicking on the LTP sidebar of this page to obtain more information on the programs offered. All parents should read the FAQs (frequently asked questions) to obtain the information required to register your child in the appropriate session. The discussion on how the players are assigned to the various LTP sessions is particularly helpful.
Learn To Play will be using the website for general communications this season. You will NOT receive emails or phone calls – so please check the website regularly for updates. Please bookmark that site and check back in September 2019 for up-to-date information on getting started in the programs, assigned coaches and detailed schedules.
The North York Knights offer LTP programs at three arenas:
- Pleasantview Arena: Saturdays at 9:00am
- St. Mike’s Arena: Saturdays at 9:30am and 10:30am
- York Mills Arena: Saturdays from 9:00am – 11:00am and 11:00am – 1:00pm (see FAQ’s for placement information)
LTP programs at York Mills, St Mike’s and Pleasantview will begin on October 19, 2019.
NOTE: The 9:30am session for St Mike’s LTP is generally for BEGINNER skaters (standing and walking on skates or basic stride and glide). The 10:30am session for St Mike’s LTP is for STRONGER skaters and returning LTP players (good stride and glide, turns and stops). Please register your child accordingly. Please note that if a player is registered for the 10:30 LTP session and the child is not at the eligible “skill level” (good stride and glide) at the time of assessments, the Knights reserve their right to cancel this player’s registration. Players must be four (4) years of age prior to December 31, 2019. Registration for children under the age of four (4) will not be permitted for any of our programs.
Extended Learn to Play will begin on October 19, 2019 at 10:00am at Pleasantview arena (subject to change). The minimum number of players required for the Knights to offer this program is 20. If a player is registered for Extended Learn to Play but the sessions need to be cancelled due to low enrolment, the Knights will notify parents of the cancellation.

For House League Players and Parents
House League games are held on Sunday evenings. Practices are held throughout the day on Saturdays with the exception of the Midget category. The drafting of House League teams occurs in September. By the first week of October, parents will receive an email/phone call from the player’s House League coach to communicate information on practice times, arena location and the regular season schedule. The Knights cannot provide information on practice times and game schedules for any team in any of the divisions before the team draft in September.
House League practices and games are scheduled in several locations in North York, including the York Mills, Bayview, Mitchell Field and Pleasantview arenas. Arenas and playing times will be assigned to teams/divisions once the teams are drafted in September. Parents/players cannot choose in which arenas they will be practicing or playing.
Parents/Players will receive notice of their team assignment from their coach by October 11, 2019. There may be pre-season exhibition games for the Tyke - Minor Novice divisions before the Thanksgiving weekend. Coaches will contact players in these divisions should exhibition games be scheduled. All other divisions will begin the season the weekend of October 19/20, 2019.
Tyke - Minor Novice, Novice Division
The Tyke and Minor Novice age group will follow the Hockey Canada mandated Initiation Program (IP) moving forward which recommends training and playing in a cross-ice or half-ice format. This Canada-wide initiative applies to all hockey associations and is intended to improve the development and progression of basic hockey skills and concepts.
It is the intention of the North York Knights to have practices for this age group on Saturday mornings and to schedule games on Sunday in the late-afternoon/early evening for the entire season. Games will have players as fully equipped goaltenders with a weekly rotation expected amongst the players; and there will be bumpers to divide the ice according to the modified ice guidelines.
Novice aged players will play using the modified ice from October 19th and graduate to the full ice surface by mid-January during the 2019-2020 season.
A more detailed explanation of what is recommended in the Initiation Program for the various ages can be found at the following Ontario Hockey Federation address: OHF Player Development Model .
Other Registration Options
There are a few options available when registering a player:
Playing with a friend: The Knights will try to place your child on a team with the friend identified on the registration application. The Knights cannot always ensure that your child is on the same team as his or her identified friend especially if one of the players is on a Select team. Please see the Team Balancing discussion on the House League overview tab for more details.
Goalies: In some of the younger divisions players will rotate through this position. Please indicate on the registration application whether or not your child is interested in being a goalie. The Tyke/Minor Novice/Novice divisions rotate players in the goalie position in all House League games. Select goalies in these divisions are not permitted to play in consecutive House League games. Select goalies are expected to play in a forward/defence position during the House League season when they are not goaltending.
Volunteers: If you are willing to be a volunteer with the Knights in any capacity, please let us know! We need volunteers both on and off the ice, so please indicate in what capacity you are prepared to help. You will be contacted at the start of the season to clarify and confirm your position. Thank you for your support.
