SUBMISSION BY THE NORTH YORK KNIGHTS (2008)
TO THE CHEVROLET GOOD DEEDS CUP
The Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup seeks to inspire young Canadians to do good by transforming the positive values learned through hockey into Good Deeds within their communities. Along with their partners at Hockey Canada, Chevrolet’s goal is to help develop hockey players on and off the ice. Over the past four years, thousands of hockey players across the country have gone out and did Good Deeds in their communities. These teams made an extraordinary impact, but unfortunately in this pandemic year that simply isn’t possible.
For the fifth year, because teams cannot go into the community to perform these deeds, Chevrolet has asked that teams PITCH GOOD DEED IDEAS that will have a significant impact in the community. Every team that participates has the chance to become this year’s champion and win a $100,000 donation to the registered charity of their choice.
The North York Knights Select 2008 have stepped up their game to meet the challenge of the Good Deeds. They have submitted their impressive video showcasing their support for GlobalMedic and one of its six programs: the Emergency Food Program. The program addresses the need for nutritional support in domestic foodbanks, and conflict and disaster zones. The program accomplishes this through the distribution of Emergency Food Kits. These kits deliver calorically dense meals while maintaining the dignity of the beneficiary by offering a culturally appropriate solution. The program is deployed both in Canada and abroad to help people in need.
The North York Knights (2008) video can be viewed at North York Knights (2008) Good Deeds Cup Submission.
This North York Knights team has been active as volunteers in the past with GlobalMedic. To help keep the costs down for the charity and deliver aid more efficiently the team has helped assemble Family Emergency Kits or Emergency Food Kits, with duties varying from packaging recycled soap, taping boxes, or stickering bags!
This is a tremendous show of community and Knights spirit and we are very proud of the team and wish them well in their bid to win the Good Deeds Cup.
Awesome effort team and Coaches!! Go Knights Go!!
